Definition of bullet trap systems

Bullet trap systems are self-contained assemblies which, as technical equipment or installations in shooting ranges, safely dissipate the energy of impacting bullets. They must be designed and constructed in such a way that

• impacting projectiles of any type are reliably and safely received, deflected or guided,
• the bullet material can be disposed of as far as possible and separated from the trapping material,
• safe firing (no dangerous rebounds of projectiles and fragments) is ensured for the shooters when shooting at close range,
• the bullet trap material can be removed as easily and safely as possible.

The design and material of bullet trap systems must be adapted to the intended use for the respective type of ammunition and weapon and to the type of shooting.

In terms of safety, bullet trap systems must be coordinated as a self-contained unit with the other structures for the internal safety of a shooting range and, for open ranges, also for the external safety (No. 1.2.2).
