RUTEC Shooting Range and Splinter Protection

SGP – Spezial Gummiprodukte GmbH was founded in Saarbrücken, Germany, in 2003, and its registered office is still there today (Saarbrücken Local Court, HRB 14295). Andreas Rubahn helped build up the company from the start and is one of its managing directors today. Our core activities are consulting, supply and fabrication.

Besides shooting range products, we supply natural rubber-based wear protection to industry, technical distributors and vulcanising companies – for example for raw material processing and recycling, for dust sealing on screening and conveying equipment and for vibration damping. Our products are sold under the RUTEC name.

For many years, SGP has been supplying natural rubber-based splinter protection for police and Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) shooting ranges.

The Bundeswehr carried out its first firing trials with our material at the Hammelburg garrison range in 2008. Firing tests of our RUTEC R5000 / R5000N bullet trap granulate (partly with cover sheet) received positive assessments from the Bundeswehr shooting range coordination office at the Bavarian State Construction Directorate (Landesbaudirektion Bayern) in 2018, 2020 and 2023 – each for the configuration tested; this does not constitute a general approval. Today, numerous federal and state police units in Germany use RUTEC splinter protection.

We test our splinter protection and bullet trap systems in our own trials and have had them tested externally – by the state proof houses in Munich and Mellrichstadt, by DEVA (German Test and Research Institute for Hunting and Sporting Arms) and by shooting range experts. Each test report applies to the material and configuration tested; reports are available on request.

We fabricate cut-to-size sheets and curtains to customer dimensions ourselves in Dinslaken. For natural rubber, vulcanisation, the welding of PVC lamellas and the production of our granulate, we work with specialised partners in Germany and abroad. This allows us to meet special dimensions and individual requirements. Our office, warehouse and shipping department are located at our branch in Dinslaken.

In addition to materials for projection and hit detection – RUTEC R3000 projection paper as well as projection screens and reflective film made of white RUTEC R1267 – we supply bullet trap systems: from granulate to bullet trap boxes, partly to our own design.

RUTEC R5000/R5000N polyurethane bullet trap granulate (nominal grain size 8–22.4 mm, 6–8 mm on request) is an alternative to sand as a bullet trap medium and is used in indoor and outdoor ranges. We supply the RUTEC R6500 bullet trap box (steel housing, polyurethane front plate, filled with R5000) and the R6000 mobile bullet trap in different versions – the R6000, for example, for training at intermediate distances. Energy limits and restrictions for each version are stated in our quotation; approval for a specific range is given by the responsible shooting range expert.

Our RUTEC bullet trap lamellas made of soft PVC for soft bullet traps are supplied on the roll, as pre-punched single lamellas or as welded endless loops – in thickness and length to customer specifications.

Our natural rubber-based splinter protection is available in red (R1038), white (R1267) and black (R1078), with green (R1077) on request – as roll material, cut to size or as a fabricated splinter protection curtain. We also supply natural rubber-based cover sheets for granulate and sand bullet traps. Matching rail systems for endless curtains are available: they allow the main impact area to be shifted so that the material wears more evenly. Installation on request.
